How Often Should You Deep Clean Your Home?
Regular cleans vs deep cleans — what's the difference and how often do you really need each? We break it down.

"Should I get a regular clean or a deep clean?" It's one of the most common questions we get asked. The answer depends on your home, your lifestyle, and how long it's been since your last thorough clean.
What's the Difference?
Regular Cleaning
A regular clean is your maintenance clean — the basics that keep your home fresh and tidy week to week. This typically includes:
- Wiping down benchtops and surfaces
- Cleaning bathrooms (toilet, shower, vanity)
- Kitchen surfaces and stovetop exterior
- Vacuuming and mopping floors
- Dusting accessible surfaces
- Making beds (if requested)
Think of it as keeping on top of the everyday mess before it builds up.
Deep Cleaning
A deep clean goes further — it's a thorough, top-to-bottom clean that tackles the areas regular cleaning doesn't reach. This includes everything in a regular clean, PLUS:
- Inside cupboards and drawers
- Behind and under furniture
- Light fittings and ceiling fans
- Skirting boards throughout
- Door frames and handles
- Window tracks and frames
- Detailed attention to all fixtures
- Appliance exteriors and interiors (microwave, etc.)
A deep clean resets your home to a baseline level of cleanliness.
How Often Should You Deep Clean?
As a general rule:
- Every 3-6 months for most households
- Every 2-3 months if you have pets, allergies, or a busy household
- Twice a year (spring and autumn) as a minimum
Signs You're Due for a Deep Clean
- Dust bunnies appearing in corners and under furniture
- Grimy buildup on light switches and door handles
- Soap scum or mould in the bathroom that won't budge
- Kitchen grease spreading beyond the stovetop
- Musty smells that won't go away
- Allergies acting up more than usual
The Best Approach: Combine Both
Most of our clients find the sweet spot is regular fortnightly cleans with a deep clean every 3-6 months.
Here's why this works:
- Regular cleans prevent buildup and keep your home consistently presentable
- Deep cleans tackle the hidden grime and reset everything to spotless
- Together, they're more effective than either alone
